LAHORE:

A group of lawyers on Monday attacked police personnel at the Lahore High Court after their client was denied bail in a fraud case and helped him escape arrest.

Justice Alia Neelam rejected Shahzad Farooq’s request for pre-arrest bail after Qila Gujjar Singh police produced evidence of fraud. The judge reviewed the record and dismissed his petition.

The suspect tried to flee after leaving the courtroom. ASI Amjad and other police officers, however, arrested him and handcuffed him.

Farooq’s lawyers intercepted the police officers outside the Security DSP’s room and started to beat them up. The police personnel deployed at the LHC did not intervene, and the lawyers were able to free their handcuffed client from police.
