Justice served: Proclaimed offender killed in police encounter, two accomplices held

Former army official shot dead late Sunday night.

A proclaimed offender wanted for murder and attacks on police was killed in an encounter while two of his accomplices were held with grenades and weapons on Monday.


Separately, a retired army official was gunned down on the city’s outskirts late Sunday night.

Qaiser Khan, an official of the Topi police, said intelligence reports stated a proclaimed offender, Majid Amin, along with an accomplice, was present at a hideout in Kotha village.

Resultantly, heavy contingents of police raided the area. Qaiser said during the raid, Amin opened fire at the police and in retaliation was shot multiple times and killed on the spot.

The official said two of his accomplices, who hurled a grenade at the police, were arrested while no one was injured in the explosion.

The accomplices were identified as Afnan, a resident of Maini, and Muhammad Rashid of Kotha.

Police filed a case and further investigation is underway, he said.

Former army official
shot dead

A retired army official was ambushed by unidentified gunmen near a bridge on the city’s outskirts in the late hours of Sunday.

DSP Fayaz Khan said the army official, identified as Zar Wahab, was on his way to his house in Maneri from a local seminary with his children when gunmen opened fire at him, killing him on the spot.

The official said police rushed to the site after the incident and shifted his body to District Headquarters Hospital, adding initial investigation revealed the official had been associated with national security agencies during his service in the army.

He added according to the deceased’s brother, Rab Nawaz, a resident of Maneri, they had no personal feud with anyone.

The official said they are yet to ascertain if the shooting was carried out by militants or due to a personal dispute, adding investigation is under way.
