Metro bus project: Rasheed files petition, cites corruption

The chief of the Awami Muslim League (AML) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against what he claims is corruption in the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project.
The petition, filed by Sardar Abdul Razaq Khan on behalf of his client Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, maintained the project is marred by corruption and requested the apex court to order an inquiry.
In the petition, Ahmad has made the federal and provincial governments respondents.
The applicant states that the metro bus project has been violating the fundamental rights of people as the roadwork is creating hurdles for the public, and especially traders.
Ahmad has also stated in the petition that the Leh Expressway project was initiated in 2007 — when Ahmad was the local MNA and also a member of the PML-Q led federal cabinet — but the incumbent provincial government of the PML-N shelved it soon after being elected in 2008.
