Younus has played 89 Tests, 253 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 25 T20Is for Pakistan leading the country to World T20 title in 2009.
The Express Tribune has learnt that Younus felt disgusted by the demotion, stating that he would rather play without any contract than to accept the current terms.
“Younus is really angry and disappointed to be given B category and has decided not to sign it,” a close aide of the former captain told The Express Tribune.
“For him the most important thing is his self-respect,” he further stated.
He also said that Khan was ready to play for Pakistan without getting the central contract fee.
“He is open to the idea of getting only the match fee because he will not sacrifice his self respect for Rs 5-6 million,” the aide added.
On June 5, the former Pakistan captain was demoted to the B category, whereas left-arm pacer Junaid Khan was promoted to the A category after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released central contracts for 31 players.
Altogether, the board has placed five players in the A category, while four have been chosen for the B tier, resulting in a 50% cut in terms of players in the group — previously there were eight.
The C category saw eight players being reduced to six while the D category (stipend) has 16 players as compared to the nine that were awarded placements earlier.

only performance rewards should be set to uplift cricket.
Only Misbah & Ajmal deserves A Category and rest may be placed in B and C. As we have seen how cheaply our players get out. It will bring them to senses. PCB should analyze yearly performances of players and award the contracts accordingly to beef up the competition.
Alot of people are saying he is not scoring runs. Check the last series performance of Pakistan batsmen. He was 2nd most runs scorer for Pakistan in that series after Misbah.
Younis Khan is averaging 60 in Test cricket since 2005. Show some respect. He is the only player in current lot who can score big hundreds.
Self-respect: Yunus has taken the right decision. Denigrating a hero like Yunus who has served pakistan with distinction is like hitting one below the belt
Its good decision by PCB. It's time to think for retirement when your not in good touch.
I think its the right decision of PCB. Younis has not been in good form in past 5 to 6 games. I think its time to think on retirement giving place for the young guns, instead to stick.
It is like humiliating Younus khan and his services for Pakistan.
All those who are honest and not corrupt or in the team of corrupt persons, are removed or demoted so they walk away from the job.. Only corrupt are promoted, glaring example is the PCB chairman himself; keeps bribing and putting political pressure on judges so called honest crooks, and keeps coming back as PCB chairman. This is a joke to start with anyway;
Great Mr. Khan u again proved that U R the Champion and Match Winner. I agree with your decision and salute you. I think Mr. Sehti should be given the surrendered amount. Again match winning shot and slap on the faces of so called PCB Administration. Shame PCB shame
Who are these very mediocre players like Mohammed Akram to decide the fate of one of the country's greats?
Moin Khan is busy in his politics ever since he has become a part of the management, first by giving unnecessary comments on who should be the captain and now this! Zero performance as a coach and manager but very effective in making this "ill" decisions.
@Khan Shahzaib: His performance? he scored 3 centuries in last 4 test series and that includes a double century too. And that is irrespective of him being given out wrongly 4 times against Sirilanka. His average in the very last test series is 48. He is one of the two world cup winning captains. In ODIs his average may be a bit low compared to his standards but not so bad if you take it in contest with some of the other Pakistani batsmen who operate under averages of 30. If you talk about recent performances then check out Hafeez against South Africa and Junaid in the recent T20 Worldcup as both of them should then be put in category D.
If younis khan is category b player than moin khan should ne thrown out of pcb because of his last performance in world cup where team lost badly
If we go by the statistics, Younis Khan's performance in important matches like the last three ODI world cups has been extremely low and he has been a big contributor in team's losses. No player should be given extra benefits if he does not perform. I think this is the right decision by the PCB. Also, Younis should not take it as an insult and try to show better performance instead...
This is a wise decision by Younus Khan.PCB you are doing wrong .Stars like Younus are not treated like this. Please think over your decision and keep Younus in Category A.
only Najam Seethi is promoted in PCB!
wow the only current Pakistani test batsman holding 50+ batting average and he is demoted to B grade...shame on PCB!
