KARACHI: The elections of the Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF), recognised by the Arif Hasan-led Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), will be held in Lahore on Saturday, informed senior vice-president Naqi Mohsin.

The federation is holding the elections six months after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) lifted a ban on the body, currently led by Mian Iftikhar.

The BWF’s Annual General Meeting in New Delhi was attended by Naqi on May 24.

“I attended the meeting and the world body’s top officials were very happy with our presence,” said Naqi.

He said that all affiliated units had been invited for the electoral meeting, which will be held before the actual elections, while the federations that are not recognised by Hasan’s POA are not compelled to attend the meeting. Even if they do, they would not have the authority to cast votes.

The elections will be held in the presence of an observer of the POA.

“We have also informed the Pakistan Sports Board. It is up to them whether they send their observer or not,” added Naqi.

Talking about the PBF’s plans for international assignments, the official said that they will field one male and one female player in the Commonwealth Games, while two male and two female players will represent the country in the Asian Games.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 3 and the other event will be hosted by South Korea in Incheon from September 19 to October 4.
