The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chapter of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) celebrated the services of Henry Dunant, founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, at Khyber Union Hall of Islamia College University on Thursday.
Organised by PRCS, the event was meant to remember Dunant’s services in alleviating the suffering of humanity where speakers urged the public to volunteer, terming it the backbone of bettering the lives of human beings.
Speaking on the occasion, PRCS vice-chairperson Azra Jamshed said Dunant started his mission alone but it has now reached every corner of the globe. Disaster-hit regions across the world have been provided assistance by the international relief body, she added.
She said the purpose to remember Dunant was to promote the spirit of assisting vulnerable segments of society by mobilising the power of humanity and encouraging the concept of volunteering.
Xavier Collard, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross’ sub-delegation, said people in Pakistan and K-P were courageous and do not hesitate to extend their services to humanity.
