Law ministry bags Rs1.2 billion

ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has earmarked Rs1.2 billion in Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for Ministry of Law, Justice & Human Rights Division for nine new development schemes.
According to the budget document, the government has allocated Rs65.340 million for the extension of Islamabad High Court (IHC), Rs53.364 million for the construction of Supreme Court Lahore registry building, Rs722.325 million for the construction of IHC, Rs272.325 million for the construction of residences of IHC judges, Rs108.948 million for the construction of a sessions court division east of the capital’s top court, which includes the acquisition of land.
Similarly, Rs10 million has been reserved for the construction of a hostel for women in G-7/3 Islamabad, Rs10 million have been kept for launching a helpline for legal advice on human rights, Rs41.855 million for the refurbishment of the apex court’s courtyard and Rs5.588 million for the installation of wooden furniture and racks in the old library at the registrar branch of the top court.
Meanwhile, the government has also allocated more than Rs1.06 billion in PSDP for the same ministry in two schemes, which are already under way. Up to Rs1 billion have been allotted for Access to Justice Programme (across the country) and Rs61.95 million for furnishing the Supreme Court’s building.
The government has also allocated Rs820 million for the Law, Justice and Human Rights Division in the current fiscal budget against the outgoing year’s revised estimate of Rs646 million.
Separately, the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz led government has apportioned Rs1.206 billion non-development budget for Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2014-2015 against the outgoing fiscal year’s revised estimate of Rs1.113 billion.
A breakdown of the allocation includes employees-related expenses amounting to Rs953.496 million, with Rs251.749 million for salaries, Rs701.747 million for allowances, Rs486.232 million for regular allowances, Rs215.515 million for other allowances excluding transport allowance, Rs187.774 million for operating expenses, Rs19 million for employees retirement benefits, Rs04 million for transfers, Rs22 million for physical assets, and Rs20.200.7 has been set aside for repairs and maintenance of transport, machinery and equipment, furniture and fixture, buildings and structure of the apex court.
The government has also allocated Rs414.640 million non-development budget for IHC against the outgoing fiscal year’s revised estimate of Rs361.531 million.
Likewise, the government has also allocated Rs1.973 billion for Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the federal budget 2014-2015 against the outgoing fiscal year’s revised estimate of Rs5.20 billion.
According to the budget document, around Rs890 million has been allocated for operating expenses of the ECP against the outgoing fiscal year’s revised estimate of around Rs4.361 billion. The government has also allocated around Rs370 million for Wafaqi Mohtasib Secretariat and Rs14.5 million for Federal Tax Ombudsman for next fiscal year.
The document further states that Rs1.79 billion have been allocated for National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the budget against the outgoing fiscal year’s revised estimate of Rs1.57 billion.
