SHANGLA/SWABI:

Local government employees from across the province will stage a sit-in outside the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Assembly on June 5.

Municipal services of the local government department and water supply offices will remain closed on the occasion, announced leaders of the local government employees’ federation, including Haji Anwar Kamal, Shad Khan and Shaukat Ali on Tuesday.

Kamal said employees from Chitral to Tank will boycott their duties, saying employees will not tolerate any conspiracy or pressure tactics against them. He said they will continue their boycott till their demands of upgradation, service structure and regularisation of contract employees are fulfilled by the government. Employees from Swabi will also join the protest.

A meeting of the local union to this effect was held with its president Haji Niaz Ali in the chair. “Our colleagues are protesting for the past several weeks but the government is least concerned to hear and redress our demands,” Niaz said while addressing the meeting.
