ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday sought replies from the capital’s police chief and the Islamabad deputy commissioner over a petition by two police officials seeking revocation of their suspension over a security breach.
National Assembly Superintendent Police (SP) Habibullah Niazi and Headquarters Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Muhammad Hussain Lasi were suspended on May 23, after Sikh protesters entered Parliament. The petitioner’s counsel argued that their clients were responsible for checking security arrangements at Parliament and not for holding off the protesters.
He said the suspension order was unjustified. The counsel maintained that SP city was responsible for protecting the Red Zone, while stopping the protesters from proceeding to Parliament was the duty of the operations division headed by Islamabad SPP Operations.
According to the petitioner,s the assistant inspector general and additional deputy commissioner had started an inquiry against them despite the fact that they could not be held responsible for the incident.
After the hearing, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui adjourned the matter. The next date will be fixed later by the registrar’s office.
On May 23 Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar suspended National Assembly Superintendent Police (SP) Habibullah Niazi, Headquarters Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Muhammad Hussain Lasi, Secretariat DSP Fida Hussain, National Assembly DSP Khalid Virk, Bani Gala DSP Safeer Shah, Bhara Kahu SHO Sattar Shah and Secretariat SHO Abdul Rehman for the security lapse.
