KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court (SHC) appointed its official as commissioner on Monday to inspect an amenity plot, which is allegedly being encroached upon by land grabbers in North Karachi.

Muhammad Hamid, a resident of the locality, had gone to the court to get the amenity plot saved from the clutches of the alleged encroachers. He told the two judges that ST Plot No. 10 located in Sector 2 of North Karachi Township adjacent to his plot, ST 9, is an amenity plot that has been used for community gatherings. But, the land grabbers are trying to usurp the land, which would deprive the residents of the space.

He pleaded the court order the local authorities to take action against the land grabbers. He also pleaded the court order an inspection of the site in order to ascertain the facts. Allowing his request, the bench appointed its official to inspect the site and submit his report by July 2.

Headed by Justice Irfan Saadat Khan, the bench also issued notices to the local government secretary, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator, the North Karachi Township sub-registrar, the anti-corruption establishment chairperson and others to file their comments by the next date of hearing.
