A shepherd was critically injured and subsequently hospitalised after being attacked by a bear in the forest area of Kalas Jabori village, around 45 kilometres from the district headquarters, police and hospital sources said on Monday.
Police quoted eyewitnesses saying 26-year-old Rafique took his goats and cows for grazing to the forest area when a brown bear appeared from the bushes and pounced on him. Rafique then cried for help and another shepherd came to his rescue following which the animal escaped.
However, Rafique in his panic, tried to run as fast as he could and slipped from a hillock, fracturing both his legs in the process. He also sustained injuries on his neck, chest and arms.
Rafique was shifted to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.
