Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday performed the groundbreaking of three development schemes including the 500-bed Wah General Hospital, which is expected to cost Rs6.5 billion.


The minister also laid the foundation stone of a boys high school and a girls middle school. The two schools will cost a total of Rs150 million and will be completed in a year.

Nisar said Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah donated 96 kanals for the hospital and 20 kanals for the schools. He said once completed, it will be the biggest public hospital in Rawalpindi division.

A 100-bed hospital will be established in the first phase, which will be expanded to 500 beds in second and third phases.

Thanking POF for the land, the minister announced two months’ bonuses, totalling Rs380 million, for POF employees.


He said the law enforcement agencies were encouraged to buy weapons and ammunition made by POF so that the organisation could earn revenue and become financially viable.

Speaking highly of POF, Nisar expressed resolve to make it one of the best ordnance factories in the region. “We will make POF an institution that every Pakistani feels proud of,” he remarked.

He promised to leave no stone unturned to raise the living standard of the masses.

Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanvir said the government will
meet the challenges of terrorism, energy and revival of economy.
