Four Rawalpindi traffic police wardens on Friday allegedly thrashed a labourer working on the metro bus project after the latter refused to obey their instructions.
The labourers were working on the site near Liaquat Bagh when a traffic warden came and asked them to open the road for traffic.
“[Labourer] Muhammad Munir exchanged harsh words with the warden. After a few minutes the warden came back with four other colleagues and took Munir to their checkpoint, where they beat him up,” said labour in-charge Nadir Khan.
Munir, according to Khan, sustained severe injuries on his head and back and was taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors have advised him complete rest.
The labourers will launch a strike if action is not taken against the wardens, Khan said. City Traffic Officer Shoaib Janbaz has formed a committee to look into the incident.
