LAHORE: “The government is obsessed with setting international records and they have done so at the cost of many other important projects,” said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab president Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo in a statement on Thursday. He was commenting on the completion of one year of the government. “The government has failed to pass a single legislation although the country badly needed an effective legal framework to face multiple challenges,” he said. Wattoo said the previous government had passed 138 bills, of which 98 per cent were adopted unanimously. He said constitutional amendments like the 18th, 19th and 20th amendments were the crowning achievements of the previous government. He said it was regrettable that the prime minister had only attended the National Assembly session thrice in over one year. He said his absence reflected the prime minister’s disinterest in national affairs. “Poor people are suffering and our prime minister is on foreign tours,” he said .
