The people’s money: ‘Rs258 billion recovered by NAB since inception’

Seminar held with ulemas to inform about fake mudaraba and musharaka businesses.

PESHAWAR: Since its inception 15 years ago, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recovered Rs258 billion, whereas Rs12 billion has been spent on its administration and salary expenditures in the same duration.

This was stated by NAB Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Director General (DG) Shahzad Saleem during a a seminar titled ‘Corruption in Islamic Perspective and Mudaraba Businesses’ at NAB’s headquarters. The seminar was attended by several ulemas from across the district.

The DG stated that recovering money looted from innocent people in fake mudaraba and musharaka businesses was a top priority for the bureau. He added it is also the responsibility of our religious scholars to educate the public about fake mudaraba and musharaka businesses through their sermons at mosques and madrassas.

Saleem said NAB’s mission is not only to arrest accused defaulters, but also to educate people on how to avoid losses for themselves and the national exchequer. The DG stressed that NAB K-P means business and any corrupt individual who is caught will be punished without discrimination.

The seminar was addressed by former MPA Qari Roohullah Madani, former MNA Qari Fayazur Rehman Alvi, Pakistan Studies Centre Director Dr Fakharul Islam, Dr Shamsul Haq of Peshawar Medical College, and Mufti Ghulamur Rehman.

The religious scholars present at the seminar appreciated NAB K-P’s role in taking the initiative of involving them to spread awareness about fake musharaka schemes. Dr Fakharul Islam stressed upon adherence to the Constitution and lauded NAB’s awareness and prevention regime.
