The body of a cardiologist who was gunned down on Monday has been transported to Canada by his family, The Express Tribune has learned. The 50-year-old Dr Mehdi Ali Qamar’s funeral was held on Tuesday in Rabwah and his family had been in contact with consulate officials in order to shift his mortal remains for burial.
Dr Qamar’s murder comes on the heels of a number of anti-Ahmadi attacks. Ten days ago, a 65-year-old Ahmadi man was shot dead in a police lock-up in the Sharaqpur area of Sheikhupura district. On May 28th (today), members of the community will mark the fourth anniversary of deadly attacks on two places of worship in Lahore, which left more than 90 dead and 150 injured.
Dr Qamar was shot by two men on a motorbike as he exited a graveyard after prayers. Jamaat-e-Ahmadiyya spokesperson Saleemuddin told The Express Tribune that Dr Qamar was paying an annual visit to Chenab Nagar in order to offer treatment at the Tahrir Health Institute. The spokesperson added that pamphlets and posters declaring treatment at the hospital ‘un-Islamic’ have been posted on the premises. An FIR was lodged against two unidentified assailants on the complaint of a guard at the graveyard, officials said.
A member of the community told The Express Tribune that some members of an anti-Ahmadi group recently moved to Rabwah from Lahore and their role in the attack cannot be ruled out.

Ali you should be sorry to write this kind of stuff
ET should remove @Ali comments. Leaving these here are an insult to the forum.
@ali: You show the typical example of being illiterate. Only Allah can help you with your ignorance
@ali: Why you write like this he was like a brother to me. Please remember whatever you write. When someone will kill your father, brother and the other person will say that they might have killed their own brother or father because they want to get money from the Govt or anything. Then tell me who is cult, you or us.
@ Ali , Its really shameful what you have written , how a community can afford to kill his own brilliant member who just arived in a remote area all the way from USA to help poor people suffering from cardiac problems , which includes not only Ahmadi but non Ahmadis as well , If it is the case then the anti ahmadiyya government have a great chance to expose ahmadiyya why cant they come with some proofs ?
Hundreds of Ahmadis are killed in Pakistan can you please point out a single one who was killed by jamat itself ?
@ali: Excuse you? Think before you write something, because you are ABSOLUTELY incorrect.
@ali: yeah the publicity of absolute silence. If indeed it was an attempt at publicity they must be stupid because when 86 of them were killed Pakistani media only mentioned them for 1 day this time nothing.
Islam does not consist of outward appearance and sloganeering. Where there is no humanity, tolerance, mercy, and compassion there is no Islam.
Pakistan deserves people like Ali.
@ali:
You mean like Shias are killing themselves to gain more publicity for their community?
Please get your facts right before you publish your story. The correct name of the hospital is TAHIR HEART INSTITUE, RABWAH PAKISTAN. A human being, son, father, husband and a brother has been murdered ruthlessly and the life goes on without any remorse in a country of double standards. How shameful. Reading some of these above written comments makes you wonder if these people think before advancing their so called conspiracy theories. UTTERLY SHAMEFUL.
Shameful act from Shameless people! The silent majority will surely be asked on the day of Judgement !
@ali: I see that your head is still buried in the sand.
@ali: people like you make me a stronger Ahmadi. Had I not been an Ahmadi I would have been living a dark and miserable life.
@ali: You should write fiction, your conspiracy theories will sell well.
@Ali it is also possible that he himself hired assasins for his own killing to gain publicity.only a fertile PAkistani mind can think so grand a conspirscy.
@RHS: You have not seen our best yet.
Have the cardiologists become so abundant in Pakistan that now we have to cull some of them?
@Ali: Your statement would be laughable were it not reflective of the stupidity of our society. The ahmedis have NOT been performing violent acts - yes they are a cult but not a violent one. Need I say aloud which side is the violent and thuggish cult?
@ali What kind of publicity they need? can you elaborate? they do not need this cheap publicity, they are already well educated and well settled, they do not expect much from this country, accept the reality dear and make our country the real Land of Pure.
Protecting minority rights, Pakistani style.
You are killing your best. Shame on you...
Its possible that someone from his community killed him to gain more publicity for their community and acheive their targets. Some of these groups are like cults.
