LAHORE:

A high level inspection team would visit the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Lahore office on Monday (today) to investigate allegations of misuse of authority and several irregularities against the bureau’s Punjab director general (DG), sources privy to the development said.

Some senior NAB officials, including its Director Squadron Leader (retd) Irshadul Haq had conveyed to the NAB chairman through the deputy chairman and the NAB Headquarters Intelligence Wing that the provincial NAB chief, Husnain Ahmad, had committed misuse of authority and other irregularities.

The NAB headquarters team which is probing the case has recorded statements of the concerned officials at the bureau and collected documents which could be used as potential evidence if the probe proceeds further. After the team collects the statements and documents, they would be submitted to the NAB chairman. The charges against the Punjab chief include allegations of using six official vehicles and five drivers despite getting a monthly transport monetisation allowance and availing three official residences, besides some claims of extending favours to the accused in high profile cases for illegal gratification. NAB spokesman Muhammad Ramazan said that he was not aware of the details and could not therefore offer comment. Despite repeated attempts, Ahmad did not respond to calls made to his cell phone.
