Pressing demands: Clerks want salaries increased

APCA office-bearers and Jamaat-i-Islami leader led the protest.

FAISALABAD: The All Pakistan Clerks Association staged a protest demonstration demanding that the government raise their salaries. Holding banners and placards, scores of clerks from several government departments marched on roads and later staged a sit-in at Zila Council Chowk. APCA office-bearers Chaudhry Abdul Aziz Bhatti, Rai Muhammad Ejaz Khan and Jamaat-i-Islami leader Azim Randhawa led the protest. Speaking on the occasion, Bhatti said, “Government employees, particularly the clerical staff, work hard… but instead of providing them incentives the government has decided to privatise several government institutions.” “The unprecedented price hike has already put a lot of financial burden on the salaried class. The proposed privatisation government entities will add to their woes.” He demanded that the government immediately take steps to check inflation, increase their salaries and provide them other incentives and allowances.
