An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday sentenced four accused to a total of 112 years in prison for possessing explosives and weapons in the jurisdiction of Mattani police station.
The prosecutor told the court of Judge Salim Jan Khan that Asif, Sheraz, Naizbeen and Haji Habib were arrested during a raid by the Mattani police on October 27, 2013.
The court was informed that the accused had kept explosives, suicide jackets, weapons and other equipment used in terrorism acts inside their house.
The four were charged under sections 324 (attempt to commit murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, 1860. In addition, they were charged under Section 3 of the Arms Ordinance 2001, Section 5 (possessing explosives under suspicious circumstances) of The Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Section 7 (creation of civil commotion) of the Anti-Terrorism Act (amended 2013) 1997.
The court found the accused guilty of the crime and sentenced them to 28 years in prison each and imposed a fine of Rs80,000 each.
