A seven-point ‘public charter’ for the people of Karachi was presented by the Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, during a press conference at Idara-e-Noor Haq on Thursday.
The charter dealt with issues related to law and order, economy, education, health, transport, water and sewerage, and recreational activities.
Rehman stressed that the government should unveil the identities of all arrested criminals regardless of their political affiliation. He called for the establishment of a transparent judicial system that would ensure effective measures for the elimination of street crimes.
Regarding economic amendments, the JI chief asked for the announcement of special packages for industries in addition to proper power supply. He stressed the need to ensure the safety of industrialists in the wake of rising kidnapping and extortion cases.
“Two government universities, two medical colleges, an information technology university, an engineering university, a university for women, and at least 50 new colleges must be established in Karachi,” he said.
