LAHORE:

Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik of the Lahore High Court on Thursday directed police not to harass a man nominated in an FIR for kidnapping a businessman from a mental hospital, as the ‘abducted’ man, Abraiz Ahmed, told the court that no one had kidnapped him.

Ahmed said he escaped from the hospital after his former wife and two uncles had forcibly admitted him to steal his property by falsely declaring him mad. He said the hospital administration had lodged a case against his friend Hamid Shah, accusing him of kidnapping. He said police had connived with his former wife and two uncles. Shah told the court that police have arrested and tortured some of their friends. The investigation officer told the court that Ahmed had stated that no one had kidnapped him. The judge asked him to conclude the investigation according to Ahmed’s statement by June 1, the next hearing.

The court should order a psychiatric evaluation of Abraiz. I believe he was previously diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. A little bit of investigative reporting would reveal that Abraiz was institutionalized after he became physically abusive towards this mother.
