Foreign scholarships: Undergraduate studies in Brazil another exotic option

Pakistani undergraduates can continue to have Latina America’s largest country on their list of study destinations in 2014.

The Brazilian government, through its Programme for Exchange Students-Undergraduate (PEC-G), provides an opportunity to Pakistani students finishing college to study at universities in Brazil, according to the Embassy of Brazil.

The scholarships, which have been offered in Pakistan since 2012, cover university tuition costs for scholarship grantees.

The PEC-G has been in place for over 30 years in Brazil and 3,000 students from developing countries, including a few from Pakistan, are currently studying in Brazil on PEC-G scholarships, according to the embassy.

“The applicants can choose any field of study in any of the more than 60 universities that take part in PEC-G, which include some of the best higher education institutions in the developing world,” the embassy said in a written statement.

Fortunately for Pakistani students, exchange study candidates do not necessarily need to speak Portuguese, which is Brazil’s official language. The grantees are offered one-year language courses before starting university studies, according to the exchange programme’s details.

Applications can be made at the Embassy of Brazil in Islamabad until July 7, 2014. Detailed requirements for candidates and indicative lists of universities and courses are available at the embassy’s website www.embassyofbrazil.com.pk
