Car bomb wounds 6 in Afghanistan's Kandahar

KANDAHAR:
A car bomb exploded in the centre of the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Thursday, wounding at least 6 civilians, police said.

The blast destroyed several shops and charred vehicles. It was unclear if the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber, said Mohammad Nabi, a policeman at the scene. He said 6 people were injured.

The bomb blast was the latest in a string of attacks in the city, birthplace of the Taliban and the focus of an upcoming US led military offensive to turn the tide against a stubborn insurgency.

Earlier this week, a group of 3 suicide bombers tried to seize the main intelligence building in the city.
