Earlier this week, Interior Minister Rehman Malik telephoned the MQM Chief Altaf Hussain to discuss the firing incident in the Shershah market of Karachi and Altaf demanded that the government provide security to the shopkeepers and compensate them for their losses.
Malik had assured the MQM chief that the attackers will be arrested and brought to justice.
Shershah market opens
Meanwhile, the Shershah scrap reopened after twelve days of closure on Monday.
The market was closed last Tuesday after armed men opened fire on shops and passers-by, killing at least 12 people and injuring several others.
Tension gripped the city and shopkeepers refused to open the market fearing another attack while demanding greater security in the area to avert any such attacks in the future.
On Sunday, Interior Minister Rehman Malik visited the market and assured full security to the traders.
