The Islamabad Police has zero tolerance for embezzlement or other corrupt practices. This was said by Inspector General of the Islamabad Police (IGP) Aftab Cheema after the hearing of an Islamabad Police inspector facing allegations of corruption and contacts with liquor and drug suppliers. According to a press release, the IGP said a policy of zero tolerance for corruption would be pursued as this menace seriously undermines the country.

Inspector Fayyaz Tanoli was suspended and issued show cause notice on the charge of approaching CID Inspector Khalid Masood Akram for the release of an accused, Fayyaz alias Billa. He was also reportedly mixing with drug and alcohol dealers while some photographs showing him in objectionable situations with various women have also surfaced.

A regular inquiry was conducted by the Islamabad Rural SP. The inquiry officer reported that the charges leveled against the officer are authentic. On the recommendation of the inquiry officer, the IGP awarded punishment in the form of compulsory retirement from service after hearing the accused official.

The IGP said policemen bringing a bad name to the department would not be tolerated and they would have to face disciplinary action in case of any corrupt practices.

The Islamabad Police, he said, had started an accountability system to monitor the performance of police officials and those indulging in dereliction of duties, negligence, poor investigation, repeated or prolonged absence and involvement in corruption would be purged from the force.

The IGP said that accountability helps improve the performance of any department and the efficiency of the staff can be easily gauged through it. He said that accountability would continue and those performing well would be also encouraged.

“Those policemen having bad reputations would not be given any important assignments and anyone indulging in corrupt practices would be shown door,” he maintained.
