Funeral ceremony: Rashid Rehman laid to rest

Civil society activists on Thursday protested against the murder of human rights activist Rashid Rehman. His funeral ceremony was held at Multan GPO Ground.

Rehman’s wife Beena told The Express Tribune Rehman was being threatened since January. She said he had been worried about his security over the last few days.

According to the post mortem report, six bullets hit Rehman.

Chehlak police has filed a case against two unidentified suspects.

Bar associations of Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Layya and Multan announced boycott of the courts in protest against the killing.

Multan Bar Association President Sherzaman Qureshi said extremists were set free while humanists were forced to go in hiding.

He said lawyers felt insecure at courts and elsewhere.

He said that in spite of informing the authorities about death threats, the police had failed to provide Rehman security. Former MNA and Pakistan Human Rights Commission executive council member Meena Jaffar Laghari said Rehman’s murder had exposed the deteriorating state of law and order in the country.

She said blamed the government for the killing.
