Tragedy: Two dead, 35 injured in AJK road accident

At least two people were killed and 35 others were injured when a passenger van fell into a ravine near the state capital on Thursday morning, police and rescuers said.


According to the police, at about 9:30am the van (MDRM-297) skidded off the road in Niyazpura Pirchanasi, some 20 kilometres from here, and fell into ravine.


The van with 40 passengers on board was going to Muzaffarabad.

The local people shifted the injured to Sheikh Zayad Al-Nahyan Hospital and handed bodies of the two deceased, identified as Muhammad Nawaz and Muhammad Irfan, to their relatives.

Five women are in critical condition and have been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed announced a compensation of Rs300,000 for the deceased and Rs50,000 each for the injured.
