From far and near: Baisakhi festival starts

Three-day Baisakhi festival starts at Gurdawara Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal.

WAH CANTT: The three-day Baisakhi festival started Friday at the Gurdawara Punja Sahib, Hassanabdal. Around 2,500 Sikhs from India, 4,000 from Pakistan, more than 200 from European and other countries are participating in the festival. Pakistan Sikh Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC) accorded warm welcome to the pilgrims arriving here through special train. Around three thousand Pakistani Yatrees, who have arrived Hassanabdal, belong to FATA, Peshawar, Swat, Tando Adam, Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Badin, Umar Kot, Karachi and Lahore. A sizable number has come from United Kingdom, Canada, Afghanistan, Germany and Gulf countries. ETPB Deputy Secretary Evacuee Trust Property Board Syed Faraz Abbas said that board is providing visitors with boarding, lodging and medical facilities. He also said that security arrangements are in place around the Gurdwara. The pilgrims will perform their final rituals on April 14 and will visit Nankana Sahab before returning to Lahore.
