Mangnejo, Kalhora tribes settle feud

HYDERABAD:

The deadly conflict claiming 17 lives and injuring 20 people, between Mangnejo and Kalhora tribes, has been settled for Rs76.4 million with penalties imposed on both the sides by a Jirga headed by former MNA Ghaus Bux Khan Mahar in Shikarpur. The tribal sources informed on Friday that the jirga slapped Rs42.1 million fine on Mangnejos for killing 9 persons and injuring 13 others belonging to Kalhoras.

Meanwhile, Kalhoras were asked to pay Rs34.35 million to Mangnejos against eight lives lost and seven injured persons. Moazaam Ali Khan Abbassi, Sardarzada Najaf Ali Khan Kamario, MNA Shaharyar Khan Mahar, Sardar Taqi Khan Dharejo, Sardar Hussain Bux Narejo and Deedar Hussain Jatoi co-chaired the jirga. The gathering was held in Wazeerabad based Mahar house.

The tribal chiefs and members of the affected families were later asked to embrace as a sign of restoration of peace between the two warring tribes. The feud, centered in Madeji town, flared up in 2010. It even claimed the lives of children and women.
