MULTAN:

Deputy Secretary National Assembly Muazzam Ali Kaloro returned to his hometown on Tuesday morning, following almost three months of detention.

Members of Kaloro’s family told The Express Tribune that his release was secured following a payment of more than Rs150 million; they say he was kidnapped and detained in the WANA area of North Waziristan. Kaloro was released on Monday night.

An FIR was lodged in January against unidentified persons at the Alpa police station when Kaloro was kidnapped as he was travelling to his farmhouse near the Basti Malook area in Multan.  According to eyewitnesses, Kaloro was apprehended by four masked and armed persons. The kidnappers then reportedly escaped towards the district of Muzaffargarh.

Kaloro, who has been serving as deputy secretary national assembly in the public accounts committee section in Islamabad, was detained with Ali Haider Gilani, the son of former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, at a religious seminary in sub-district Kabeerwala in district Khanewal, according to sources.
