Lodges’ maintenances: MNAs unhappy with civic agency work
Seek report from CDA in 10 days over misuse of funds in purchase of furniture.

A parliamentary panel has expressed concern over the substandard maintenance work at the Parliament Lodges and Government Hostel by the capital’s civic agency and sought a report on the issue in 10 days.
The National Assembly Standing Committee on House and Library met at the Parliament House here on Tuesday with Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi in the chair.
The committee discussed issues of poor maintenance and fixation of substandard furniture at the accommodations of members of the parliament by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and delay in completion of additional family suites for the legislators.
The members were annoyed over absence of CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal from the committee meeting.
MNA Mehreen Razzaq Bhutto, one of the members of the committee, drew the attention of the legislators towards cleanliness particularly sewerage system of the lodges. She said due to the seepage the roofs and walls of the family suites are in pathetic condition.
Abbasi, who is convener of the committee, expressed displeasure over the non-implementation of earlier decisions of the committee and directed the civic agency officials to address the complaints of the legislators at the earliest.
Abbasi told the CDA to take prompt action on the parliamentarians’ complaints and strictly monitor the quality of food and tidiness in the cafeteria of the parliament lodges. He also directed CDA to sort out a complete survey for permanent solution of seepage at the building.
The committee asked the civic agency to take concrete measures to complete the construction of additional suites before November.
He also sought a report from the CDA over alleged misappropriation in funds utilized to purchase new furniture for suites within 10 days.
Mr Abbasi also asked the CDA to take action against unauthorised occupants in the parliament lodges and hostel and submit detailed report to the committee.
Other members who attended the meeting included Shahida Rehmani, Mehboob Alam, Mian Abdul Manan, Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Imran Ahmad Shah, special secretary (A), National Assembly Munawar Abbas, member (Engineering) CDA and other senior functionaries of National Assembly and the CDA.
