A new era: Justice Miankhel sworn in as PHC chief justice

Replaces Justice Fasihul Mulk who served at the post for a little over two months.

PESHAWAR:
The new chief justice (CJ) of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) was formally sworn into office on Tuesday.

In a ceremony held at Governor House, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Shaukatullah administered the oath to Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel who replaced Justice Fasihul Mulk.

Several judges of the PHC, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, senior minister Sirajul Haq, provincial ministers, government officials and lawyers attended the ceremony.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, the governor and CM congratulated Justice Miankhel on assuming his new responsibilities.


Justice Miankhel, who hails from DI Khan, obtained his law degree from Gomal University in 1982. Following this, he joined the lower courts as a lawyer and two years later became a high court advocate. Justice Miankhel was elevated as a Supreme Court advocate in 2003.

Miankhel was then promoted to the PHC bench as an additional judge in 2009 and made permanent in 2011.

Throughout his career, the new CJ has served on various judicial and administrative committees as well as the vice president and secretary of the DI Khan district bar association.

Furthermore, he also taught as a part-time lecturer at Gomal University’s law college from 1998-2000.
