Agriculture sector: Better yield a priority, says minister

Minister said a big chunk of the Punjab budget was being spent on the promotion of agriculture sector.

LAHORE: Punjab Agriculture Minister Farrukh Javed said on Tuesday that ultramodern techniques were being introduced in the agriculture sector to obtain better yields. “The provincial government is pursuing a comprehensive agenda to raise living standard of farmers,” said Javed, adding that the government was attaching high importance to the promotion of agriculture, livestock and oil seed sectors. Javed said that since Punjab was considered as the country’s food basket, latest machineries were being imported to double the yield and a big chunk of the Punjab budget was being spent on the promotion of agriculture sector. He informed that under the directive of the Punjab chief minister agriculture research had been revamped and now research was aiming at discovery and interpretation of facts relating to our own realities and requirements. He concluded saying that special incentives package was being offered to improve financial condition of the farming community.
