Senate Chairman Nayyer Hussain Bukhari has said that new law on rent control in the federal capital will be tabled in the upper house of parliament soon.
He gave the assurance to a delegation of businessmen on Tuesday, said a press release. The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) team, led by Senior Vice-Chairman Khalid Chaudhry, called on the Senate chairman in his office in Parliament House and apprised him of issues being faced by the businessmen of the capital city.
Talking to the delegation, Bukhari said that domicile holders of Islamabad should be given preference in federal jobs up to grade-15.
He said enforcement of rent control laws was a longstanding demand of the federal capital, but no government made any serious effort to address this issue.
He assured them that the new rent law bill will soon be presented in the Senate.
Chaudhry said due to absence of a balanced rent law, traders were feeling insecure as a landlord could force a tenant to vacate his shop by giving a simple notice.
He said many private housing societies have developed housing sectors, but CDA laws are not applied on them and people have to comply with two separate building codes.
He appealed to the CDA to take over all housing projects for compliance with one building law.
