LAHORE:

Several lawyers beat up a litigant over his alleged misbehaviour with the security staff of the Lahore High Court Bar Association on Monday. The security staff had stopped him from entering Kiani Hall.

The man fainted after a number of lawyers kicked him and hit him with their fists. He remained unconscious for about 15 minutes. A Rescue 1122 ambulance took him to a hospital.

His condition was later described as stable. Muhammad Rasheed from Okara had come to the LHC in connection with a case. During the court’s break from 10:30 am to 11am, he tried to pass through Kiyani Hall to reach the canteen.

The LHC Bar Association (LHCBA) staff stationed at the entrance gate stopped. When he insisted, a group of lawyers intervened. Rasheed allegedly misbehaved with them and a heated argument followed. LHCBA President Shafqat Mehmood Chohan later said an unidentified person had tried to forcibly enter Kiyani Hall. He said he misbehaved and beat senior lawyers. Chohan has constituted a committee led by vice president Amir Jalil Siddiqi to investigate the incident. The committee is to file its report in seven days.
