Vegetable and fruit sellers on Wednesday shut down their shops in protest against the killing of a trader.
Shah Wali was shot dead when he resisted an armed robbery on Ashraf Road on Tuesday. Wali was the manager of wholesale shop dealing in supplying food grains.
Traders took his body and blocked GT Road demanding the government to provide security to the business community.
Malik Sohni, the chief of All Pakistan Agriculture Producers Trade Federation, said the strike call has been given to press the provincial government to take steps for the protection of traders in the city.
“The government is not taking solid security steps due to which the life and property of traders are in danger in the city,” said Sohni, adding the protest will continue until the police arrest the criminals and provide security to the traders. Residents of the city faced problems in purchasing vegetables as a result of the closure while the few open shops sold vegetables at double the prices.
