In the line of duty: Policeman shot dead, another injured
he suspects managed to flee later.
KARACHI:
A head constable was shot dead and a constable suffered injuries when three armed motorcyclists opened fire at them in Iqbal Market in Orangi Town on Thursday. According SHO Tasdeeq Waris, at around 6:30am, the police personnel signalled the three suspects to stop but they opened fire at the police mobile instead. As a result, head constable Mehboob Alam died, while constable Farooq suffered injuries. They were shifted to a hospital. The suspects managed to flee later. SHO Waris said that the police mobile was deployed in the area after some residents complained that unidentified men dressed in police uniforms were snatching money from people. Alam’s funeral prayers were held at Garden headquarters of police and he was laid to rest at Paposh Nagar graveyard. He was a 36-year-old married man and a resident of Nazimabad. Sindh police acting IG Iqbal Mehmood, Sindh police DIGs and family of the deceased attended the funeral.
