ISLAMABAD: The supreme court on Wednesday ordered all provinces to conduct local body elections by November 15, Express News reported.

The case was heard by a three-member bench presided by Chief Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani.

The court order came in response to a petition filed by the Election Comission of Pakistan (ECP) in which the ECP appealed against a high court decision that gave the authority of delimitation of constituencies to the Government of Punjab.

In its order the court said that the mandate of free and fair elections was is with the ECP, which is why the ECP is has the authority for delimitation of constituencies.

The court ordered the federal and provincial governments five months to conduct legal proceedings.
