Polio workers attack: Militant suspect sent to jail on judicial remand

One of the suspects is already in jail while another is still at large, the prosecution added.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday sent a suspected member of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to jail on judicial remand for his alleged involvement in an attack on a polio team in Sobrab Goth in 2013.


The ATC-I sent the suspect, Umer Farooq alias Fareedullah, to jail till March 28 and directed the investigation officer to submit a supplementary charge sheet in the case. According to the prosecution, some men on a motorcycle opened fire on the polio workers in Jamali Goth within the limits of Sohrab Goth police station on December 17, 2013.

The prosecution said that the Crime Investigation Department had arrested Farooq a couple of weeks back and handed him over to the Sohrab Goth police, as he was wanted in the case pertaining to the attack on polio workers. One of the suspects is already in jail while another is still at large, the prosecution added.

A case, No 828/13, under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 324 (attempted murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code was registered against them at Sohrab Goth police station.
