The jirga was held to resolve a land dispute between two groups of the Jakhrani tribe but proceedings turned bloody after a heated argument and five lives were lost. On the complaint of Imamzadi, the wife of deceased Mehboob Jakhrani, the Mauladad police lodged an FIR against 15 people, including Mansab Jakhrani, Akbar Jakhrani, Anwar Jakhrani, Mourzado Jakhrani, Ghazi Jakhrani and Sikandar Jakhrani but no arrests have been made yet.
The relations between the two families have worsened after the incident and the police have not ruled out the possibility of more bloodshed.
Status of the injured
Five others were also injured in the incident, out of whom, Sardarzada Noor Ahmed Jakhrani, was referred to a hospital in Karachi for further treatment, while the remaining are under treatment at Civil Hospital, Jacobabad, and are reportedly in stable condition.
Head constable Ghulam Murtaza Brohi confirmed to The Express Tribune that an FIR has been lodged against 15 people but was not aware of any arrests. Reports say that, due to the involvement of certain influential individuals in the matter, the police are reluctant to make any raids or arrests, while the tension in the region has turned it into a no-go area for law enforcers.
