Drive against dengue, malaria launched

Three day campaign against dengue and malaria launches in Shah Faisal town.

KARACHI/HYDERABAD: A three-day campaign against dengue virus and malaria was launched in Shah Faisal Town on Tuesday.

A 50-member team fumigated the town to stop the breeding of flies and mosquitoes.

Meanwhile, to cope with the recent rise in dengue cases in the city, the Patients Welfare Association (PWA) Blood Bank, run by students of Dow Medical College, is providing free mega units to patients of dengue fever admitted at Civil Hospital, Karachi.

According to a release issued on Tuesday, the PWA provides blood and platelets, packed cells and fresh frozen plasma round the clock and free of charge.

In Hyderabad, six more dengue patients were admitted to Civil hospital. According to DDO health Dr Ahmed Haider, 65 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals from Hyderabad and surrounding areas since October 4 this year.

Thirty-one patients were admitted to Civil hospital alone.

In Larkana, an isolation ward for dengue fever patients has been established at Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana. Dr Imdad Ali Shah and Dr Ghulam Mustafa Shaikh have been directed to work as focal persons in the ward in addition to their own duties.

Separately, a dengue patient was found in Shahdadpur, which created panic in the town.

Faisal Anwar Abro, 22, was suffering from dengue and after initial treatment, he was taken to the Civil Hospital, Hyderabad. PPI
