PMD says system of westerly winds currently affecting south-western parts of the country

Several parts of Karachi on Monday received light drizzle and intermittent rain as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecast thunderstorms and rain in the city under a westerly wave.
Areas including DHA, Korangi, Delhi Colony, Clifton, Mahmoodabad and PIDC experienced light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by overcast skies.
According to the PMD, a system of westerly winds is currently affecting the south-western parts of the country, with a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in Karachi today.
"On Tuesday, Karachi is expected to experience mostly sunny conditions along with stronger-than-usual winds," the department added.
It further said that in the districts of Sukkur, Kashmore and Ghotki, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall are expected at scattered locations.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Sindh government had placed all relevant departments on alert in view of expected rainfall in the coming days.
"Authorities have been fully mobilised to ensure effective drainage in urban areas and to respond to any emergency situation, while residents of low-lying areas have been advised to take precautionary measures," said Memon.
He further added that a government plan had also been prepared to protect crops and mitigate potential losses for farmers.
