ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has decided to consolidate the compensation packages for families of those martyred and injured in terror attacks in accordance with the package recently approved under the new National Internal Security Policy (NISP). It will also ensure that all cheques for financial compensation will be provided to family members within seven days.

The decision was taken in a meeting on Tuesday chaired by Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. Ministry officials told The Express Tribune that the specific amount provided by the new package and its scope have yet to be announced. The compensation package will be finalised in the coming days in light of the NISP policy, which stated that its implementation will require an estimated Rs32 billion, one of the participants of the meeting said.

The estimated cost of the provincial component of this policy is Rs22 billion and Rs10 billion is the estimated cost of the policy’s federal components, he said.  The government will rehabilitate all victims of terrorism, especially vulnerable groups such as women, children, the elderly, minorities and people with special needs, the source added. Protection of key installations and places of national importance will be ensured as well.

In an official statement issued soon after the meeting, the interior minister said the reviewed security plan should be presented by end of this week.

Nisar said every effort should be made to implement the directions given by the three-member bench of the SC, and directed for their full implementation by the 8th of March, well before the next hearing.

The minister ordered the immediate purchase and installation of new walkthrough gates and CCTV cameras for the district courts in Islamabad. He directed the interior secretary to coordinate with the Punjab government to implement the order of the Supreme Court with regard to beefing up security of the district court in Rawalpindi and the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court.
