KARACHI:

At least four people were killed in separate acts of targeted killings and violence in parts of the city on Tuesday.

A man was shot dead when two armed motorcyclists opened fire at a public call office in Block D of North Nazimabad. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Murad Gul, son of Khasta Khan. The injured was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries. SHO Nawaz Gondal said that deceased used to work at the PCO. Initial investigations suggest that he was killed over personal enmity.

An abducted man, Amir Saleem, 22, was found dead in the New Karachi area within the limits of Bilal Colony police station after his family failed to pay ransom money. Police officials said that the body was found packed in a gunny bag and was moved to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The officials added that the victim was kidnapped and tortured to death. SHO Sajid Javed said the victim was in the furniture business.

He was kidnapped after someone called him on February 20. Afterwards, some outlaws also made calls to his family and demanded ransom money, he added.

An elderly man was shot dead near Aath Chowk in Lyari within the limits of Kalakot police station. The deceased was identified as 65-year-old Safdar Ali Shah, son of Fida Hussain Shah. He was shot multiple times and died on the spot. The body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi for an autopsy. He hailed from Chakwal and used to live in the city at a guest house in Lea Market area of Lyari. Police officials said the man might have been killed over suspicion of being an informant.

A 75-year-old woman was killed inside her home in Gulshan-e-Ghazi in Baldia Town. She was identified as Ghulab Jan, wife of Ameer Afzal.

SHO Enayatullah Marwat said the woman was strangled to death, adding that the initial investigation suggests that the victim’s son, Irfan, and her grandson, Saleem, might be behind the murder.

The men were also trying to bury her inside the home, he added. The official said that a case has been registered while further investigation was underway.
