ISLAMABAD: Federal Secretary Ministry of Textile Industry Rukhsana Shah has said that the government was determined in working towards enhancing trade volume for economic stability and growth.

She said that the government was revising the new textile policy 2014-15 to focus on infra-structural development, research, skill development and enhance the product development centres in the country.

“We believe in the consultation process to get all the stakeholders onboard for the upcoming textile policy,” she said, adding that regional trade will be the main focus that will help to enlarge the capacity of Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad garment cities.

Shah stressed the need to modernise the industrial tools and equip manpower of local industries with innovated skills and technology. She urged the local industrialists to invest and train labour with modern instruments to compete with international investors and increase production.

“After overcoming the energy crisis in the country, we can raise textile production to benefit from the duty free trade with the European Union,” she said, adding that in the past the ministry was unable to implement a strategy for the revival of the textile industry due to lack of funds. “The government is committed to maintain peace and prosperity to trickle down the resources at gross root level,” Shah added.
