In skilled hands: Placement bureaus set up

The programme also offers training to unskilled youth.

KARACHI:
Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, the commissioner of Karachi, urged the city’s youth looking for work to get themselves registered with placement bureaus established at the commissioner and deputy commissioner’s offices. Chairing the 13th meeting of the Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP), he chalked out a system through which unemployed youth can be placed at relevant organisations depending on their skill sets and education. Once they call the toll free number, 0800-82272, placement bureaus will direct them to their partner organisations. The programme also offers training to unskilled youth, he added. “Fully conscious of the fact that a significant majority of our youth are unskilled, we have developed close linkages with BBSYDP to provide necessary training to these raw hands,” Siddiqui said.
