Livelihood support: Baitul Maal distributes 100 sewing machines in Sahiwal
Pakistan Baitul Maal MD says they were also running 175 vocational training institutes for widows and poor women.

As many as 100 sewing machines were distributed today by Pakistan Baitul Maal Managing Director Abid Waheed Sheikh among under-privileged women in Sahiwal. Sheikh told The Express Tribune that the Baitul Maal had been running 30 ‘sweet homes’ across the country with 3,500 orphans currently.
He said they were also running 175 vocational training institutes for widows and poor women.
These institutes were teaching women how to make handicrafts among other skills, which would enable them to sustain themselves and earn at least Rs8,000 to Rs10,000 a month.
He said Prime Minister Nawaz Shairf had been supporting the expansion of Baitul Maal’s activities.
He said the government had been planning to make special centers to collect donations in Pakistani embassies all over the world.
Sahiwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Chaudhary Arshad Hussain expressed appreciation for Sheikh’s personal involvement in monitoring activities in Sahiwal.
Hussain said he would try to collect 500 sewing machines in 2014 for deserving women in Sahiwal with the help of civil society and the government.
