KARACHI:

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) filed another petition in the Sindh High Court alleging law enforcement agencies of ‘extrajudicial’ killing of its worker, Muhammad Adil.

The MQM filed two petitions last week on similar grounds and the SHC has called for replies from the federal and provincial authorities.

“The police officers are responsible for these deaths and cases should be registered against them,” party leader Nasreen Jalil told reporters after filing the petition on Friday.

Jalil alleged that Adil was unlawfully arrested by the police during a raid at his house in North Karachi and was tortured during detention. Adil was later handed over to his family in critical condition but died during treatment. The court was pleaded to provide protection to the family members of the deceased and to direct police to register a case against the officers involved.

The respondents in the petition include the interior ministry, the home department, IG Sindh and AIG Karachi Shahid Hayat.
