Moving forward: EDF approves funds for different projects

A meeting of the board of Export Development Fund (EDF) has approved a number of projects for the economic sector.


The meeting was held at the Ministry of Commerce on Monday, chaired by Federal Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir.


This was the first meeting of the EDF board since Dastgir assumed charge as the federal minister for commerce last month, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.


The board approved funds for the ongoing projects including a fibre classification system (a project of the Ministry of Textile Industry), vapour heat treatment (VHT) plant for mangoes, national trade and transport facilitation project and garment city in Karachi.


The board also approved financing for new projects which included a cotton ginning research centre in Multan, shrimp farming project in Karachi and the establishment of a display centre and research institute by the Saarc Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Islamabad.
