Shabbir takes top spot at CAS golf event
Defending champion replaces Nazir in third round with impressive show.
KARACHI:
Defending champion Muhammad Shabbir replaced Muhammad Nazir on the top spot in the 33rd Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Open Golf Championship 2014 at the end of the third round on Saturday.
Shabbir led the board with the score of six-under-par 210 at the Airmen Golf Course PAF Base in Karachi.
He finished day three with a score of five-under-par 67 to take the lead among 44 golfers.
In the third round, Shabbir proved his mettle and played each shot brilliantly. He left Nazir behind with six birdies in total.
Nazir, who was leading on day two, finished second with one under-par 215.
Changezi leads seniors’ event
On the other hand, Colonel Younas Changezi continued on the top spot in the Senior Amateur event, while Colonel Shahid Mehboob stood second and Muhammad Qasim remained on third place.
Major Shahid was leading in the net category, as Wing Commander Khokar and Sultan Mehmood secured second and third place respectively.
In the Amateur event, Sajid Khan took first position in the gross category, while Zohaib Asif secured second and Captain Ansar Mehmood finished third.
Meanwhile, Farman Ali took top spot in the net category, while Robin Bagh took second place and Zubair Hussain ended the day on third position.
The competition will continue on Sunday, where the top golfers will vie for the title in the final round.
